Inner Fairing dash
Happy Holidays to all
Just got a new take off inner fairing (dash) for my Ultra Classic. Plan on painting the thing and installing it myself, can anyone tell me if this install is going to be complicated? Has anybody out there changed or installed a color matched inner fairing.
Thanks
Mark

Looked around the forum and found a bunch of info. I needed to read a bit more before posting. Guess a few othjers have done the same. Got the take off for $100.00 bucks on ebay. Trying to decide if I need to take to area body shop or just use color-rite and do it myself.
Thanks again

You'll probably have to take it into a paint shop as they don't sell touchup in an aerosal can that I know of. I have my stuff painted at the same shop that does touchup and crash repair for the local HD Dealer. He uses PPG paint to match the color. It looks fine and is a lot cheaper than the factory paint.
No, no check www.color-rite.com
they have paint in touch-up pens, spray cans and pints, quarts ect.. check out the site. I have used their stuff a few times with good luck..Mark

Check out your local paint suppliers, (Sherman Williams) we have one in our area that will take our paint and put it in an aerosol can for us. Reason I say our paint, it's paint furnished byButler Metal Buildings which we sell and install, they have their special colors for their metal roof & wallpanels. Sometimes we have to repaint panels or trim to match their colors. They charge us about $ 35.00 per can and it works great, lot better than pulling a paint sprayer out for 15 minutes work. Hope this helps.
here is a reasonable alternative to a painted inner fairing. Nothing to remove, around a 15 minute install, cost about $150 or so shipped to your door. Looks good, works great, peel and stick, last forever. exoticwooddash.com Put my burlwood dash on this past summer, has about 10K miles behind it so far and looks outstanding.

HD sells their paint in aerosol cans with the exception of the CVO colors. There is no website per se, but you can get your color code (a two or three letter set) by looking at the tour paks or fairing lowers in the HD Parts and Accessories catalog. The five digits are the part number, and the letters are the paint code.
The part number for aerosol paints is 98606***, just insert the paint code letters. Fire red pearl, for example is 98606BXY in an aerosol can; touch up paint is 98601BXY, the 98601 designates a touch-up.
I've used the HD aerosol and it worked fine. Personally, I'd prefer to stay with the HD aerosol if that's what you plan to do--rather than depend on an aftermarket vendor's paint match.
If you want a quart, the part number is 98609***. The aftermarket is better than HD since you can get smaller quatities to spray; less waste/leftover.
The inner fairing and fairing swap is tedious, but very easy--no special tools required.
