Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my 08 FLHX. Is there a change in seats? Is the bigger tank the reason for the seat change? Anyone with some miles on the FLHX OEM seat have comments. likes or dislikes? thanks in advance.
Rode a ultra at a demo ride, hated seat, pushed too far up on tank. The back part of bucket seems closer to tank than other years?? H-D said that hole in seat was to stop your butt from sweating???? I think they needed to let ECM breathe, its under seat now.
I'm getting a new ultra next week, have been on internet looking at seats for '08s. I have 40,000 miles on my RK, with a corbin dual touring, looked at corbin, but it looks like they changed them. I loved my corbin on RK!!! New seats from corbin look like stock harley seats??, or not a good picture? I'll need something by may'08 when we go to myrtle beach. mark
The seats are infact different in 08. And yes the change was due to the larger tank size. I have the stock which I do not personally mind, and still ride with alot. But I also bought a Sundowner primarilyfor the bride. The seat backon the stockas you know is pretty nimble on a FLX. That said the wife loves the Sundowner and its slightly more comfortable to me over the stock seat.
Not sure I answered your question, but thats my experience with it.
I was told that the tang on the seat (pre- '08) that goes under the tank when you mount it, is now on the tank, and it goes under the seat. I was pricing out a new Ultra and found out my Air Zeppelin wouldn't work on a new one.

This is correct.
There is no tang on the seat on a 08.
It is on the Tank. Slides into the seat.
Go Figure.

No that is the stock seat in that pic. Lots of changes to mine since then..... But the weather has not givin me any chance atall to ride lately or take any good pics.... I am hoping for Monday! The one posted by "No Mistakes" is the same Sundowner seatI have.... It is much wider and levelfor the passenger rider. A must if you do a long run with your girly.....

Yep, What Donnylee said.
I bought a sundowner for the wife as well. The stock seat was fine for me but she hated it. After 5,000 miles and switchingback to the stock seat a couple of times I think I like the sundowner a little better than the stock. It feels like it sits you back a little farther as well.
I like the seat on my 08 RG. The way the seat was designed on my 02 standard, the material to the rear of the seat part would pull against the tailbone as you sat on the seat. The new seats have a cut at the tail bone area so they give better support without changing shape as you sit in the saddle.
