Default REMOVEABLE BATWING

i have an 06 roadking std that i would very much like to trade in on a street glide, but... that being out of the question financialy ( so says the wife).. i have been thinking of getting a stock h/d bat wing fairing off e-bay and useing a set of detachable windshield hardware to mount it quick release style like my winshield.. therefore having the best of both worlds...i see some guys selling these on e-bay etc for huge bucks..anybody done this before?? any input is appreciated

I thought about this before I got rid of my rk I even acquired a batwing outer. The problem I ran across is making a mount on the batwing to work with the windshield bracket. I am not saying it can't be done but making one that would stand up to the wind pressure of 70 to 80 mph was a little concerning. just my .02

One problem I can see right away is that a stock fairing has the headlight built into it. When you want to ride without the fairing you would have toput the original headlight back on. The easiest thing to do is to buy an after market fairing.

I was going to cut the stock batwing back to use the stock headlight. That way I wouldn't have to change it. Like I said my concern was the stability of it.

There are several manufacturers of this type of fairing that mount in place of the stock windscreen. I have a Danny Kaye fairing I bought off a member of this forum and had painted to match my bike. I think that trying to modify a stock HD fairing to be removable would be more expensive and time consuming than to be worth the effort. Just my .02

Dead Center Fairing makes exactly what you want. If you want to save some bucks, you can put a radio in yourself and paint it to match your ride. I bought one recently with the radio and speakers mounted and painted to match my bike. Great product! Goes on and off just like your windshield and can be locked to the scoot. Very solid mount! Mounts around your headlight.

Dead Center. Only way to go. It locks and fits like a glove! I love mine and also love taking it off in less than a minute.....

Ya, I have a "King Of the Road". Bought it in 85 for my 1985 SSC. Works just fine. I am building a FL framed, 124CI S&S, 6/Speed, Inverted forks, & C/F wheels. I know from experience it justs pops right off & you have a 7" bucket. If youi wish passing lamps, that option can be had also but not with quick disconect. I paid $10 for the batwing, $50 for chroming the supports and $12,500 for the entertainment system (the 124ci, 6/speed, & open exhausts). Sounds good to me. By the way, it is direct bolt up if you only wish to bolt it up & unbolt it to remove. The photo is with a late model batwing, the real one is in the container in the yard.
