Just the pipes will not make the bike run that much leaner-thats the problem. Check your plugs after about 100+ miles to make sure they are not white. I know of many that has done just the pipes with no problems.
Get a set of take offs from your local shop (most will have at least a few sets sitting around collecting dust) and cut the end about 1" shorter, the entire baffle will come out and you will be left with a 3" drag pipe. It is loud but not obnoxious by any means and I had no negative effects on mine. If you don't like it you still have the origals...
