Thanks alot for all of your replies. If I didn't just buy highway pegs for the bike I would try theaccuttonix. However, I have been burned a couple of times with aftermarket stuff that would not fit me and I was unable to return because they had been "installed". I'm sure you all know my pain. I hope that maybe someone chimes in and tells me that the jaybrake FC's will help lower my knees. Thanks to all that have replied so far. Harry

I had basically the same problem. My knees ached after about 20 miles and my sciatic nerve would flare up when I had to pick up myfeet up off the boards to get to the pedals. First thing I did was buy a road zeppelin seat. Didn't help at all. Next,I sent the saddle off to Meancitycycles to be modified to sit me back further and also raise me up. They did a great job, but it wasn't enough. I decided I would try to fix it myself, fullyunderstanding I mightbe in the market for a new seat after I "fixed" it. I boughtastaple gun, took the cover off the saddle and trimmed off the verticalpart that supports the back of the butt, allowing me to sit further back. I didn't need that support since I have a backrest. I thencontoured two layers of memory foam and two layers of gel on the saddle part of the seat, which raised me up over 3" from factory height. Istretched the covering back and restapled it. No, it doesn't look home-made. Yes, I'm sitting up pretty high, but this was the only thing I could think ofto assist with the pain I was enduring with my knees bent up all the time and having to raise my leg (foot) clear off the boards to get to the brake as well as down-shifting. Ilowered the shifter as much as I could on its splines.I bought a Kuryakan extended brake pedal that didn't help much, so I took it off. I thenbought the EZ Brake and found the pedal was much lower and further forward than the Kuryakan and a great improvement. Now, I can reach both shifter and brake without having to pick my leg up. The height decreased the pressure on my old arthritic knees and back. I'm more comfortable now than I have ever been. Even though I am at least 3" higher than the stock seat, I can still flat-foot the bike.

Here are some pictures for comparison.

first stock floorboard(w/ ez brake)

second jaybrake j-fl forward controls.

third accutronix forward controls (on a sweet road king!)

For comparison of these forward controls use the rear brake master cylinder as a constant because it is in the stock location in all three situations. The stock floorboard top is just above the bottom of the master cylinder, and the foremost edge of the floorboard is about even with the front of the master cylinder. The j-fl forward control is at least in the middle of the master cylinder front to back (if not a little closer to the back) and the top of the footpeg is almost the thickness of the foot peg above the master cylinder.

To answer your question if the jaybrake forward controls lowers your foot...based on these pictures without sitting on a bike with a set I would have to say no, and might be safe to say that they may actually lift the foot and therefore the knee slightly higher. Granted your heel would be hanging below the peg giving a different foot position, but all in all it would be about the same knee height as stock.

Now look at the accutronix...the peg is just ahead of the front of the master cylinder and the top of the peg is roughly at the bottom of the master cylinder...so not only do the accutronix drop your foot height, they also let your knee drop some more due to the fact that they push your foot forward allowing the knee to straighten out. If you really want your crash guard then you will need to look into seat modifycation to lift your self a bunch and adjust your highway pegs so they are low where your foot wants to be.

Hope this helps and lets you concentrate on a direction to solve your seating dilema.

Adam

I just bit the bullet and ordered the accutronix set. I will let you all know how it works out. This seems to be the best fix for me. Thanks to all. Harry

Sorry. I don't know how to add the image. If someone wants it then pm me with your e-mail and I will send. The pic is with a person sitting on the bike with before and after pics. Harry
