good thread here. now that we're into it, is the high costname brand torque wrenches justified, or will acheapo Chin-Tech something or other serve OK for the occasional weekend wrench turner?
I have a sears for foot pounds and an expensive Matco for inch pounds. I figure a footpound might be within tolerence, but I wouldn't trust a cheapy with inch pounds.
And I don't care who you are, you can't "feel" the proper torque setting.

Agree, looking to buy a Snap On for In Lbs, ( CDI makes the Snap On stuff ) and currently have a new Kobalt for Ft Lbs but may get a new " Split Beam " wrench by Precision Instruments. They say that with the split beam type the pressure you apply breaks free when you hit your torque setting, which will prevent over tightening. http://www.emaxaction.com/index.asp?...amp;ProdID=425

Almost always by the book, especially with bolts going into aluminum, which is almost everything. Always torque axles to spec. If I don't torque I'm aways careful not to overtighten.
