Wondering if anyone has a photo they can upload showing their Street Glide fairing with the J&M speakers installed. Considering upgrading from stock and wondering how the tweeters look. I've seen the factory pictures from John — just interested in some real-world images to seal the deal.
Do yourself a favor and go buy the JBL's or Infinity Kapas. Both are awesome speakers at 2 ohms and each have better bass delivery than many of the other speakers out there. Take 30 mins to change them out and you need squat for tools or knowledge to do so. 7 bolts and the front fairing cap lifts off in your hand, unplug the lighting harness and the speakers are right there ready to change out.
JBL's are sold all over the place for about 50.00 including eBay and sound great. MB Quarts also rock in the fairings and no water issues with any of them. I'm now installing a 1200 watt system in my bike with JL component speakers in the fairingand amp/subs in the rears. I can tell you a thing or two about speakers, but that stories been whipped around here a few times. So have John's infomercials.
I was concerned about the look of the tweeter until a friendinstalled a set on his SG and they look and sound very good. I'm soon going to replace my JBLs with the J&Ms.
Found these pictures on eBay -- someone selling a bike with the J&M's, shows how they look in the fairing. Wondering if the grills could be installed upside down to put the tweeter at the bottom, or if that would defeat the purpose.
I tried a pair of the J&M's, and when they started crackling I pulledthem out. I found the back of the tweeter was in constant contact with the rubber speaker surround and also made contact with the edge of the coneleaving a depression in the surround thatdistorted the rubber. This was likely what was causing some of the noise that came from the speakers.I also found they wereunder powered in the bass department, and minesounded like crap after about 6 weeks of use. I have since puled them out and then installed the JBL'sto which Ihave since had no problems whatsoever. They've been soaked and sprayed with a high pressure hose more than a few times so no issues with water either.
