so this may be a dumb question but here goes.... what is the throttle roll off position? I assume its that 1/4" or so that you can roll the grip forward? I am asking because out of curiousity I tried this on my 08 FLHX and nothing happened? Ignition on> Roll throttle forward and hold> holding> holding> still holding> Nothing? hmmmmmm

My mistake, I was referring to the pre 08 ETIMS with my post above.

The 08's are user programmed as per the bulletin.

Yep. My bike, which was built in December and which I picked up last week, has that feature. It's described in the Owner's Manual. And as Kroozer describes, the feature can be activated or de-activated by a simple user sequence.

Pretty cool!

Im Glad someone posted the "effective date" of this option. I bought my 08 RG in December, bike was built in November. I too saw this option to turn the feature on or off in the owner's manual. Manual also said that bikes were delivered in the "off" mode by default. IT also explains the procedure to turn it on and back off again if necessary. I tried to familiarize myself with the procedure, and could never get it to turn "ON" (green light)... as per the manual. Now that I see that the effective date is the end of December, I"ll have to see my dealer to make sure that the proper download is in there,to be turned on or off. Thanks for the information!

(at Idle push the throttle to roll-off position and hold for 3 secs) HUH!

If the bike is not running, isn't the throttle already at roll-off position?

How do you push the throttle? My throttle turns it is not a pedal.

Maybe I have had to much Glenlivet today or is HD speaking Japanese?

If the bike isn't running and your hand is off the throttle, it's not in the roll-off position, it's in the neutral (0 throttle) position. You have to turn the throttle all the way forward to the stop and then hold it for 3 seconds.

The throttle is at position "0" without touching it. If you roll the throttle "clockwise" or "forward, rather than back, it will move as someone described, about a quarter inch. That is the "roll off" described in the manual. You are supposed to hold this there for 3 second. The "cruise control" light will then either turn to "red" - inactive or "green"- activated. This is after you have turned the igntion switch to on and the "run" button on, without starting the engine. As I stated, although it is described in my manual, my bike being built in November and delivered on 12/20/07, apparantly doesn have the download in the ecm to allow the use of this function. My guess is that all 08's will be able to do this once adjusted as per the 12/31/07 bulletin. No rush here, it's still January...brrrrrr.

I get it now, the throttle will turn forward. Damn glenlivet oh well at least i'm not riding and drinking.

This might be a good feature to have for Sturgis and if I don't like it I can now turn it off for free. Plus I love it when I can have the dealer do free work it makes me feel like I'm getting my money's worth out of that expensive warranty I bought.

If I understand correctly, pre-December 2008s can be "flashed" by the dealer, to make this feature work.
