Question for oil temp gauge installers

Default Question for oil temp gauge installers
Hi folks,

I note some of you install the oil temp sensor in the spare oil bung on the touring bikes.

I'm installing an oil temp gauge on a Softail and don't want to use the softail method of splicing an oil line.

Looking underneath my '08 Heritage there is what appears to be an unused oil bung in the centre of the engine bottom between the shocks. Would this be what I'm after?

That would be the transmission drain plug.

Yes, there is another plug there but I don't think it will work.
There is very little oil, a few ounces, I think there.
