i removed the rubber portion and cut off the lower chrome bar leaving the thin upper bar visible. gives a clean look with just a touch of chrome.

No you won't. Can take it off without removing the wheel.

I think mine may be cracked, and has been on my 05 flht for a while now. Is it o.k.? I didn't think it was really holding anything on.

hard to say. on my 98,the bumper had tension from both sides. you had to pull the bag supports together to bolt it up. on my 06, i can take it off and the bags and supports dont move at all. i dig it.

I've been riding around w/ it cracked on both sides for god knows how long, and have had no problems so far. It appears as if the bracket coming off the fender should hold it fine, but who knows. I'll look into this part, or replace the bumper, it doesn't bother me.

I tried it without the part and it vibrated like crazy. Get the part it's worth it.

Here is my RK without the bumper.

The newer bikes already have this brace so make sure you check first.

My 2010 did so I had to return the brace that I had bought when I removed the bumpers.

Not sure when they started adding the brace???
