Should have my SG this week. Having air and pipes done. I keep seeing folks saying to go with the SERT not the Hd download. Is one better than the other? Still new to this stuff, but what i read here it seams you guys like to help. Spend 20 on a bike and dealers still cut you no kind of slack on parts or clothing. Stealerships is the perfect name for them. Unitas, see you on the road

The download is CRAP. Even worse on the 06 models. Go with the SERT, spend the extra money and be happy. If you get the download you will be back on here next week wondering why your bike runs like crap. Do some searches on here. You will see what I mean.

I have never heard anything positive about the download.....and have never heard anything negative about the SERT...other than the cost.

Just so people know. The download that HD does is one of the same maps that is on the disc for the SERT amongst others. So take the $150 that the dealer rips you off of and put it towards the SERT and install the crappy map yourself and then drive it to a dealer/shop and have the bike dyno tuned.

Go with the SERT my Ultra has the download on it from the P/O and its getting dynoed this week. For example, I have a ping @ 2000 rpm with any throttle increase, I have to drop a gear and stay above 2500 rpm to not ping. You will not be unhappy with the SERT.

Put my PCIII on tonight. took it for a ride. different bike. smooth at low RPM. No pop on decel. Runs a lot cooler. Will have to see what the gas milage goes to. I will look for a dyno center soon. I am glad there is a cure for the 06 setup that the EPA has caused. Bike runs stronger. REALLY happy with results. Thanks everyone for the advise I have received here.

Am I correct in assuming that the SERT (Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner) requires a laptop? I printed off the manual and it's very interesting reading (I keep it in the 'library') even for those of us who probably won't buy it. I've gotten through maybe 5-6 pages so far and have already learned a bunch. Lots of theory and also quite a bit of practical info about the HD open loop system.

Yes requires a laptop to make any changes to the ECM.

Actually a laptop is not "required". A computer is needed, if you don't have a laptop, you can rig a long cable to make it to the bike. I saw something about making the long cable somewhere? The laptop makes it easier, plus the SERT has a data collection mode(not needed for tuning upgrades/tweeks) that collects data while you are riding, for that you will need a loptop.
