I bought and installed them in my VTX 1800. I liked the new rumble sound they give that bike.I can't help you with an HD. I suggest you give them a call, they were very helpful when I was deciding if I really wanted to put them in my VTX.
They are great if you like loud pipes. The little washer that they weld to the baffle is just big enough to keep good compression for the engine while making it sound like you have straight pipes. Its all in what you want.
csbreeze is right.I have them on a '91 FLHS with Porker pipes.Very loud but with a sharp 'crack' to the exhaust note.No one in my club likes riding behind me, sets off car alarms when passing.I've got to be honest, I prefer the sound of the V&H ovals on my '07 RK, so do my riding friends.
I have them on my softail with python staggered duels which are basically V&H big shot staggereds. They make a deep throaty sound. The softail has a carb, so the idle sounds awesome. I lost a little low end torque, but when running hard above 3500 rpm, they really shine. That bike used to kind of roll over at about 80, but now it pulls hard up to 100 with the improved exhaust flow. If you get them, pay attention to the instructions mentioning where to place them. At first I had them in with the washer towards the end of pipe and I got lots of backfire on deceleration. By just turning them around putting the washer farther forward, I got more backpressure and problem was solved.
