Default 07 RK Handlebars

This forum has been very helpful to me and I wanted to pass on something I had not found through searching. I am currently installing wild 1 513 and cruise control on my 2007 RK. Talked to Wild 1 (very helpful) about this and they told me that instead of soldering on extensions for the right and left control wires, there are a couple of companies that provide extension kits. This is differnt from the harley extension kit which just adds another set of sockets. Price is reasonable at $50 bucks fora full set. You avoid soldering, it is plug and play essentially and makes life easier (not easy since replacing handlebars and adding cruise is a PITA). Factor this in if you are replacing handlebars and need an extension.

I have the same bars. I extended the stock harness. It took some time but wasn't all that difficult. $50 sounds OK to me. Saves ya the trouble.

Hi Bulag,

Very helpful tip. I too have learned much from this site and appreciate the post.

I am thinking of putting on the same bars. I am pretty handy mechanically, but am a NooB at working on the front end of the bike.

What made you decide on these bars?

Do you have a basic parts list for this project?

Did you take the opportunity to upgrade to the SS braided cables?

Did you re-use the stock components?

Any advice would be appreciated, or even a basic pointer to a place to start would be great.

Thanks in advance!

i used the same kind of kit when i did my apes i believe the brand was novello they are a good product but i found when pulling the wires thru the bars if running internal make sure you dont bend any of the connector ends because they wont bend back. dont ask me how i know.

Khillyard;

I picked these bars because I was able to sit on a bike with the 518s and liked them more than the 508s, but they seemed a bit low. When I called Wild 1 to order the guy on his own, talked to me about what I wanted in my bars and then recommended the 513s. They are nice and I am looking forward to getting them on.

Parts list is really general tools, along with a torx 27 and 25 screwdriver type. That is key. I didn't upgrade to SS and wild 1 is telling me my clutch, throttle, brake will work with the bars, only the harness needs length. Also make sure you buy a single clamp for the bar instead of using the stock 2 clamps. It is only $17 from Harley.

I did this myself after the dealer quoted me $400-$500 to install cruise and $300-$500 for the handlebars. I am assuming once the frustration is over with I will be happy I did this. But there are times, with a beer in hand that just writing a check seems like a better idea.
