Default A mess with throttle sensor

Crap,I screwed-up trying to install new grips on my 08 EGC. I obviously put the wrong grip on the throttle. As I was pulling the grip off, the throttle sensor/wires came off with the grip. The wires plug into a connector than runs up into the bar.

Does anyone have an idea how I can get to the handlebars where the wires are inserted? I do not have an 08 manual.

I am leaning toward having the dealer come get my scoot, do the work, and chalk it up as an expensive lesson.

Time for a cold one.

Thanks in advance

did it pull the sensor plum out of the bars, did the wires come un-pluged? did it break??there is quite a bit of slack in the wires that come off the sensor.
if you could post a pic it would be alot easier to let you know your least expensive options.

You will have to pull the fairing cap and radio. The sensor plugs in and is replaceable. It is pretty sensative so I would recommend replacing. Not hard to change.

The sensor came out of the handlebar. There is about six inches on wires with a connector that came unplugged. I don't know where the wire harness is fed into the lower handlebar. Or how to get to it.

I appreciate your help and advise.

quote from service manual:
"The external latch on the pin housing of the twist grip sensor connector will break if the twist grip sensor is pulled to hard. A broken latch prevents positive engagement of the pin and socket housings. Since the connector is not servicable, any damage requires replacement of the twist grip sensor jumper harness."

This may be one of those expensive lessons.
not trying to be a smartazz or anything, but the part number for the 08 service manual is
99438-08

Well, looks like the scoot will go to the dealer. Darn it. Won't be cheap either.

lonn, you can do this yourself and save a ton of money. There are 4 pages of instructions on this in the service manual. Not a hard thing to do, just a lot of steps to do it right. The money you save will probably pay for the sensor jumper harness and the manual.

Experience is the BEST teacher.
After this project, just think of how many people YOU will be able to help.
Good Luck my Freind.

I go nuts trying to figure out a lot of the posts here and elsewhere I go on the web, due to mis-spelled words, but did HD *REALLY* screw up the spelling in that quote from the book?

"is pulled TOO hard" would be the correct meaning; "pulled to hard" doesn't have much meaning at all.

Amazing.

Don't bring it to the dealer, you can do it yourself. There is a green connector half way in the handlebar. Did this come unconnected? Can you see the connector? If you did break the connector, then you will need a new throttle sensor which is pn#32305-08 and a new jumper harness which is the rest of the cable. It exits the bars under the radio and then plugs into the connector in the fairing to the upper left of the radio if you are looking at it from the front. I changed bars and dealt with the sensor so if you need a walk through let me know and I can walk you through it.
