I am going to be installing the v/h fuelpak. Question is do I need to have the stage 1 download for the ECM from the dealership? And if yes, should it be before or after I install the fuelpak? Thanks in advance. And dont jump on me about the fuelpak, it was a gift and I will just suck it up. Thanks
Iâm responding cause I have the same question. Whatâs this about âsucking it upâ using a Fuelpack? Thatâs what Iâve been able to gleen as the best and user friendly: Plan V&H Oval slip ons, Fuel Pack and AN Big Sucker. Sounds like the best for my 2008 FLHR. Explain please.
No you don't need a Stage 1 download, that would be a waste of money as the Fuel Pak will take care of all of that for you. The correct settings should have been in the box with your Fuel Pak, if not go to the VH website or call and they will give you all the setting numbers. I'm not sure what pipes or Air Cleaner you are using but they can match up anything you have. If you don't have a high flowair cleaner yet I would recommend the K&N RK 3909, reusable filter and made in the USA. Let me know if you need any more info. Good luck, install of Fuel Pak is qwik & easy.
Ditto what Peppa1 said. Install the Fuel Pak and follow the instructions. Instructions will have the codes for the Oval exhaust. So easy a caveman could do it! My system works just fiine; no problems. Good luck.

Not that the Fuelpak is bad, just meant if I made any internal changes I would have to switch to a PCIII or something else. I have VH Big Shot duels and will be installing the big sucker this weekend.
I have downloaded the correct maps. I was on the fuelpak website and saw a map with the ecm calibrated to stage1, thats were the question arrised.
I am throughly happy with VH, did not mean to imply something was wrong.
In the past people did install the Stage 1 download and then get down the road and maybe decide to do something else and add the Fuel Pak but by adding it you will be overriding the Stage 1 HD download. According to my dealers service mgr. their are no Stage 1 downloads for the 08 models so purchasers of those models will have to choose either the SERT (high $$$) or an aftermarket solution (fuel Pack, PC III etc. )

Stage 1 Download for 2008 1584cc part number is 34462-08A/DT, Stage 1 Download for the 1690cc part number is 34463-08A/DT. The fuel pack will only over ride fuel settings, not timing and rev limit. The stage 1 DL increases rev limit and adjusts timing.
If you are dead set on the fuel pack, get the download then add the fuel pack. I would do neither, you will probably be happy but fuel economy will suffer and it will not be optimal. Spend the money, find a qualified tuner and get the SERT.
