I have the 360 adjustible mounts on my ultra and they work great. They are offset to get around the bulge in the lowers. I went with the shorter length because at 6'4" I got long legs.

Get some of the neoprene knee supports that you can buy at any store. Might help to keep the knees warm and the added support helps out the pain.

Good News: So, the good news is that I picked up my brand spanking new Vivid Black Ultra Classic on Friday night! By the time I made it from Ocean City (Maryland) to just West of Baltimore ~9pm it was down to the upper 20's. [&:] Enough layers to stay warm plus the full-face that my g/f bought me for Christmas and I was comfortable ... except for the cold wind hitting my 42+ year old knees.

Bad News: Despite Under Armor-ish leggings under my jeans and a pair of rain pants over them, the cold wind on my knees was brutal. My abused knees (which regularly ache after my bi-weekly runs or weekly indoor soccer games) were just plain hurting the closer I got to home despite trying to move them to get the blood moving. [:@]

HELP: I *need* a set of highway pegs in a bad way so I can stretch my knees out. I don't think the short ones (like these) I had on the FLSTC will work w/ the Ultra lowers ... nor do I think my legs would reach them. Need suggestions of pegs/mounts that will reach back around the lowers to get close enough that I can rest my toes on them when my heals are still on the floor boards.

Woohoo: Bike ran great and my fears about moving my 5'8" butt from the recently sold Softail Heritage to the UC weren't anything to worry about. I test road a couple EGs before making the plunge, but I'm blown away by how much better this is than the Softail! Woohoo!!

Many many thanks again to everyone's input a while back to my "To Ultra or Not to Ultra" post!! This thing ROCKS!!

Aloha ... Robert
Robert, this really worked for me. My excellent floorboard footpeg combo.

Congrats on the new ultra. They are sweet bikes. I've got bad knees also. I use black insulated coveralls kinda like carharts but I think their lees or something over my jeans. I tried insulated underwear but they bunched behind my knees and bothered them. They seem to do fairly good but man 20 degrees is to damn cold to be on a bike esp at our age. Oh mine are 10 years older than yours. Then I guess your'e good to go... go enjoy that new ultra that is. I'm looking for a set of hiway pegs also keep us informed on your search.

Thanks for all the great ideas about cold knees and highway pegs everyone. I like the peg-mounts that dirtdobber suggested and these too. I've never had any of the Kuryakyn stuff before - how does their chrome hold up? These HD ones look similar - anyone have any opinions/experience with them??

Thanks again!

Kury makes alot of chrome stuff re-brandedfor HD. The Kury "Tour-tech" and the "Longhorns" are both sold under the HD brand name (pretty much all the above suggestions are actually either the Tour-tech or the Longhorns by Kury). Either will reach around the lower faring of an Ultra.

I currently have the Longhorns. They have quite a bit of adjustment, but as a result theytake abitlonger to install/maintain (getting everything lined up and bolted tight can take a few tries....there are several points of rotation and you have to get them good and tight so as not to creep on you).

I have pretty short legs (30" inseam) and the longhorns don't reach as far aft (withan Ultra'slower farings). They kinda go forward 2" (to reach out past the lower faring lip) then back 4" (so you really only pulling back about 2"..... see pic).

If I had to do it over again, I'd likely go with the Tour-tech. They are a few bucks more, but reach further back. I mostly just rest my toes on my pegs.

As far as chrome quality, I've seen great batches and some that turned to crap in a season (I've purchased tons of Kury over the years). It's really luck of the draw, IMO.

As for the foot pegs the kind that rotate for perfect reach are the best thats what I have mine are HD but the knees I have issues with as well and nothing beats a good pair of CHAPS I know how they look but they really do the trick. Go to www.foxcreek.com they make them for you to fit you and I dont think they were much more than 100.00

I worked at dealership as parts mgr. and the most popular set that we sold for ultra classics was the part # 50829-07 or 50830-07 depending on your length of legs. You can then use any style pegs you want. Good luck !!
