Everyone needs 2 bikes! Keep the Fat Boy and get whatever you want for the second bike. I have an Ultra and am going to keep it and get a second, smaller bike for town and use the Ultra for two up and road trips.

I had an 05 RK Custom which to me is a glorified Fat Boy. I mean that in the nicest way possible by the way b/c my RK Custom was the best looking bike on the road. However, I took one ride on a Street Glide and that was it. I traded my RK Custom after 4 months of owning it. I do miss my Custom, but man the SG makes up for it in every way.

Take one for a test spin, don't forget your favorite CD though b/c you will now have a CD player, and you will be joining our part of the forum in no time.

Texas Fat Boy-

I have a similar story. I had ridden the wheels off of a V*1100 metric and wanted something more and got the Softail Heritage Classic figuring I'd ride more and it was a good step in that direction. 8000 miles in ~5 months later and I realized (like you) I needed something more.

Ditto other posts ... go get a few demo rides under your belt and/or rent one for a day/weekend. The touring bikes are SO MUCH smoother riding and (imho) handle as-good/better than my Softail ever did. I asked the same questions and never heard of anyone regretting going from a Softail to one of the Touring bikes. You won't regret it for a second.

Aloha ... Robert

Okay thanks for the inputs, I figured asking this question in the Touring section, this is the reaction I would get. POSITIVE !!!!
I will test ride some and maybe rent one if I can.

I can wait for warm weather since I do have a nice bike.
I have bags and windsield on mine now and that's the way I ride.
But I have to ride with those chrome fork lowers to keep my head from ratteling.

Before I ride/rent one I was curius as the the Street Glide's head buffleing.
Does your helmet shake, glasses move around, can you read road signs?
I can't without the chrome fork lowers over60 mph.
....and what can you do about it on a Strret Glide?
I see those little adjustable wings on the sides of the fairing
and have heard something about a fork baffle.

Could somebody expand on this for me?

and I remember you Silver Back. LOL

You can simply buy a different windshield. I have what they call a "wind deflector" since it is only 6 inches high (the stock one is 4 inches). I am only 5'8" so the 6 inch is all I need, but some guys have bigger one than mine. I don't have any problem w/ my 6 inch wind deflector, but I still like to rock the 4 inch screen now and again. You can find them for about $30 a piece if you look, plus you can change in under a minute so you have lots of looks.

In other words: Wind noise, wind buffeting, etc are non-existent for me

I kept my Fatboy when I bought my Road Glide but to be honest, I haven’t ridden the FB much since. I thought that I would prefer the FB around town and it still gets the looks and whistles when I ride it, but I find myself enjoying the ride on the RG so much more, even on short trips.

Still won't turn the FB loose though....

ORIGINAL: Texas Fat Boy

Before I ride/rent one I was curius as the the Street Glide's head buffleing.
Does your helmet shake, glasses move around, can you read road signs?
I can't without the chrome fork lowers over60 mph.

I'm 5'9" and the wind buffeting used to hit me right at the top of the helmet on my Street Glide with stock 4" windshield. I put on a Clearview dark smoke 6.5" recurved windshield and problem solved with wind over the top of my head.
I then put on a C&C Sport Tour seat which lowered meinto the bike just a bit more and now the windis well above and gone completely.

As to your original dilemma of different dealers giving different advice, I think everyone wants to justify their own choice by recommending their own bike type to others. However, I don't see how anyone can say with a straight face that a softtail *handles* better than a Dyna frame or a Touring model. The softtail may ride smoothly enough, but it doesn't *handle* in the same leaguewhen you get tothe twisties.

I have both, I think you will be quite happy with the SG. Like others said, just go rent one for a weekend and see if it is what you really dig.
This should get interesting... [sm=popcorn.gif]

I went from an 03 Fatboy to an 08 Street Glide...

No regrets at all.

I kept the fatboy in hopes I can get my wife to ride it instead of her FXDL. So far thats a no-go...

So I'll have no choice but to ride it once a week for ***** and giggles.... (and remember the brakes dont work as well)
