HELLO Fellow HDFers....... Im thinking of replacing my TP lid with one that already has luggage rack on it (Just for touring) then put original one back on after trip...I dont care for look of luggage rack. You can buy hinges that both look better and can be taken off from a guy on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custo...spagenameZWDVW

Tim: I removed my premium luggage rack and used this HD chrome spear trim to cover the holes:

These use an adhesive backing to attach. It would berelatively easy to remove them and reinstall the luggage rack, though I haven't done it or have any interest in doing so--but they cost 39.95 which is a lot less than the cost of a lid and 85.00 hinges, so it may be worth considering.

Just remove the screw on the hinge.

[align=left]Just remove the screw on the hinge.
Most have rivets holding the lid to the hinges, not screws.

Yep, rivets. Plus, they look cheap like almost after thoughts. Went to their local Ace and found some 1950's era cabinet hinges and said "These'll do" [:'(]

My hinges are attatched to tour pack with stainless rivots from the factory.Pins don't remove. No easy way to remove unless you want to drill out rivots and replace.

I drilled out the rivets and replaced them with small stainless nuts and bolts. I don't know the size but ACE Hardware had bolts the same diameter as the rivets.

I wonder if there is a way to rig up these to come on and off without adhesive? I might have to get some and try to glue on some tabs to go in the screw holes, then a clip to hold these on. That would be a pretty slick setup, because I dont like the look of the rack on all the time either.
