Default floating rotors?

i tried searching but its not working....

i have a slight shaking or something when i hit the front brakes, i replaced the pads w/Lyndalls and it was ok for a while (2 days) but now its back, i'm thinking its the rotors...so i figure if i'm going to replace them put some floating ones on but....what are they? what do they do?

--thanks

You have a slightly warped rotor. It is common on 2000-up bikes. With a dial indicator and a little tapping, you can straighten it right out.

Floating rotors do just what they say. A "true" floating rotor is made of two pieces and and the outer most piece that your brake pads contact actually 'float". You can grab it and it will feel loose or rattle just a little. I have the HD two piece on mine but I've told that they're not a true "floating" rotor. On my BMW I could grab a rotor and it wiggle in my hand but I can't do this with HD'S. I guess they're supposed to help with noise and warping, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Sounds like you have a warped rotor as said. Floaters, true floaters anyway, will move side to side to the direction of travel(not front and back ) These rotors will have 2 sections, a center "carrier" and the friction ring. They are held togather with what is called a "Button", kinda like a large rivet. The button is what lets the friction ring move independant of the carrier that is bolter to the wheel and does not move

SMELLS LIKE U HAVE A WARPED OR BENT ROTOR.
NOT VERY COMMON...

A FLOATING ROTOR WILL MOVED IN AND OUT TO COMPENSATE FOR BRAKE WEAR.

IF UR REPLACING THE ROTORS GET THE FLOATERS

Go ahead and buy them they are worth it. You can get them that match your bike there are many different styles. Harley sells them, so findthe ones you like out of the catalogueand then buy them at one of the 20% off places.

Harley should mount floaters on all bikes. The competition does.

There was a company specializing in floating rotors at IMS this past weekend. They're working on a fitment for big Harleys, but not available yet. Yes the MoCo accessory ones are not "True" floaters. Maybe Grimecaor Brembo may have 'em to market sooner.

Then there'd be about 4 blank pages in the accessories catalog.
