Default Ape Hanger Help

Hey Guys and Gals,

I need some pics and opinions on the right size of apes for my 07 Road King. What are you using and how do you like em? I am 6/1 and 230 lbs and I'm torn between 14" and 16" bars. Any help you are willing to share would be very much appreciated. And before someone says do a search...I already did and didn't really find the info I was looking for.

Thanks
SMT

If you want apehanger bars, going higher than 16" will mean having your windshield cut out on the sides to keep the grips from being back at your shoulders when you ride. 16" apes will allow a natural riding position without requiring that. Lower than 16" - well, I had 10.5" FXRP bars on my FLHR for several years and always found them to be too short. Remember the best way is to sit on other bikes with the same setup before you put the money down...

Check out baggernation.com they have some nice looking bars there. I'm getting ready to go the ape route myself

Good Luck

I run an '04 road king custom and at 5'10" (mostly torso) my 16" bars are perfect. dont go any lower. 14"s (IMHO) look better on a road king, they have a little bit better stance on the bike for pure parking lot appeal but the 16"s ride nicer by a whole bunch.

I have the HD fat mini apes on my RKC and I have never ridden in a more comfortable position. I am only 5'9" and these bars are well below my shoulder level. I do however have them lined up "in line" with the front forks which ultimately lowers the hand position from an otherwise upright angle.
I bought this bike from a guy who was about probably about 6'2' or more and he loved them.
I am not having any luck being able to post pics on this forum but if you want a pic e-mail me your address and I'll gladly send.

I have an 08 roadking standard with 14 inch wild 1s...and I am 6 ft....dont really know how they feel yet because I havent rode it with the new bars....I always thought if the 14s were not enough I could put on a different seat that lowered me a couple inches....but 14s or 16s would be perfect

I have 18" bars. I am 6'1" and weigh 300 pounds. I am more torso, than leg, and my hands sit right at my shoulder height... I am very pleased with the height of the bars, and they are very comfortable... no issues with my back, or with my hands going numb (like the would with the stock bars), and I am actually able to steer at a slow speed better than I could with the stock bars... If you are deciding between 14-16" only, I would do the 16". You would hate to spend the money on 14", only to find you had wished that you went taller (which I read a lot)... Good luck with the search. I got mine through www.lachoppers.com . I got the standard 1 1/4" bars, but wish I had gone with their ***** F'ers (which I let the wife talk me out of)...
