Personally I don't like the way they look. Harley and Kuryakyn make numerous different brackets to attach to your engine guard that work well and keep the stock look. I have the short angle (adjustable) brackets. I have them installed so that my heel rests on the front of the floorboard and my toe rests on the footpeg that is attached to the bracket. Very comfortable.
I have the guard and I like the looks.
As far as the rubber pads, I have a hard time using them. I have been looking at pegs to put on them at about half the height of the pads.
I have the HD mustache bar on my 06 SG. I absolutely love it. The riding position with my feet up is very comfortable and I do like the look as well. I thought about putting on fairing lowers because I like the looks, but would loose the mustache bar and the comfortable riding position, and do not want to forfeit the comfort of the mustache bar.
IMO I don't like the looks of the mustache guard, but everyone knows what opinions are like.....
I installed the Kuryakyn Switchblade pegs on my engine guard to use as highway pegs, they are a bit chunky but the swing down heel rest makes them extremely comfortable. But to each their own I say.
I put the new Kuryakyn mustache guard, It wraps back a little and the pegs are integrated into the top so they fold in and out. Real slick. I've had a couple different setups and this is by far the most functional and really sharp (if you like that style) I dig something different. Everyone has a bar and pegs so I always lean toward something that will catch your eye.

I've installed nothing but a Lindby Custom Bar on everything I've ever built and I can't say enough about them. Great look's, comfort and quality. Take a look at Lindbycustom.com, you won't be disappointed, Putt
I have one on my 06 SG. I like the look better then pegs. But i am 5'8 and it is just a bit too far forward. I thought about going with a Lindby if its closer?
