mustache engine guards
I was considering removing the stock crash bars from my RG but a fender bender while in the city changed my mine. I was riding around NYC during the holidays. While my bike was parked a Chevy Suburban backed into it, smashed my front fender and knocked my bike over while I was standing right there.
Most of the damage was at point of impact, the front fender, which I'm replacing with a Kustomcycles low profile stock RG fender. Other damage was a scratched underneath my right saddle bag and a scratch underneath my front lower fairing. That was it. Watching the bike go down I was expecting acracked fairing, smashed tank etc. The crash bars protected my bike and now they are staying. Plus removing them would have meant getting rid of my lower fairings which made a big difference in my winter riding.

I had the Kuryakyn Ergo guard, and liked the looks of the engine guard on my RKC. I decided to remove the guard because I am 6' tall and the engine guard positions the footpegs aout 3" closer to the rider than stock. This was the reason why I went back to stock. Below is a picture of the bars on my RKC.
