Default Links in Threads

Once upon a time, before the HDForums "upgraded" to their newest and latest version, you could insert a link into yout post that was very much shorter than it originally was. There was a feature that allowed you to cut and paste the original "mile long" link into an address window and then you could give it a much shorter name/description of your choice. This feature was great. It eliminated the the long links that s-p-r-e-a-d out the the viewing page causing the reader to scroll side to side as well as up and down. I am all for upgrading to better the process, but this was one feature that was great and was not broken. Will this be addressed?

That would be nice. Until it is addressed I continue to use the bracket method and rename the link. For those that don't know you put [url=whatever the link is] then you put the new name of the linksuch as HERE or whatever then you finish it with a /url inside of the same brackets that you put the url= inside of. I can't do it here because then it would think it was a link and attempt to post it

Like this: . Now between these 2 brackets" ] [ "( the end of the 1st long link and the shorter"[ /url]") you put whatever you want to name the link.

Hi Soos,

I don't remember how it used to be done but the new way is not too bad IMHO. What you do nowis type in what you want the link to be be, like this: Soos Link. Youhighlight it,then click on the link icon above, paste in the actual link, andhit OK. Itturns it blue and others can then follow it.

Hope this helps.

Hey Dave, I humble myself before you[sm=hail.gif][sm=hail.gif][sm=hail.gif] The old way had a double address window. You entered the link in one and the new name in the other. No fuss, no muss. I tried your way and now feel stupid, but at the same time I don't understand why HDF changed their format for this procedure. Never in a milloin years would I have worked out the process for renaming a link as you have described. Thanks.

Is this procedure explained elsewhere in this forum?

Hey soos,

Glad I was able to help. I don't know if this is explained elsewhere. I just messed with it for a few minutes and figured out how to do it.

I work in IT and can't explain why things change for what seems like the worse other than a new programmer thinks the new way is 'better'. Not alway the case.
