Default Lower Fairings

Lowers arrived today and they look nice on the bike.

What pisses me off is that several members here stated that they stop the wind from blowing up on your face. They do no such thing as the wind simply blows over them and in your face. If some of you guys don't have a clue about what you are talking about, then don't post BS that could cost other members money. I dropped $539.20 on these because MANY members here stated that they stop the wind from blowing up. At best, they reduce the wind by 30%.

Other myths:

The PCIII and Canned Map is better than the Race Tuner and Dyno. - False
The fork mounted Air Baffle keeps the wind from blowing through the forks. - False
The Fairing Air Deflectors keep the wind from blowing up. - False

I do not have any wind on my face on my Ultra to speak of. Maybe it's a street glide thing since your upper fairing is further out than the other Glides?

I'm really sorry to hear of your disappointment with your new lowers. You'll really like the way they'll keep your feet dry while riding in the rain. I just had a thought, could the problem be your batwing upper?[8D] My lowers do a great job on my bike and that's no BS.

Interesting. I just ordered some lowers and looked forward to a reduction in turbulence, and if only 30% that's better than nothing. They also keep you dry while moving, warm in cold weather, and add some additional storage--which are more pluses. I don't expect them or any other accessory to be a panacea.

PCIII myth: I agree, as any improvement seen would likely be small or non-existent.

When you refer to the "fork-mounted air baffle," do you mean the item that bolts directly under the steering head? If so, I didn't notice a great reduction either. However, the fork-mounted air deflectors that mount on the forks do cut turbulence greatly. Unfortunately, they won't fit on an SG or I would have them installed.

The fairing air deflectors do help, but I agree don't cut it out completely. I don't want it cut out at all times, which is why I installed Freedom Wings, which are adjustable.

Each of these changes make some progress toward making the bike a better environment for riding, especially long-range touring. I posted a message asking opinions on adding lowers and the answers were overwhelmingly positive. I look forward to installing them, but like I said don't expect them to solve all problems.

It's definitely the Batwing design and I've been looking for ways to cut the cold air from blowing up. Sadly, the lowers don't help much. I realize that they will help with keeping the rain off my my feet while down on the boards, but they are no help when using the touring pegs. I use the HD Rain Gaiter Lug Sole and they work great at keeping my feet dry, up or down. http://*******.com/3b9gd7

That's the one.

I agree, they do help in reducing some air from hitting the rider. I have the new adjustable ones from HD and I love them for directing air on me. They came in handy this past Saturday when the temps got close to 80.

I was not looking for a miracle, but was looking for about a 70% reduction and especially considering the cost. Looking at your bike photo, (which I think is very sharp) you might have to lower your touring pegs. I have the shorter style of what you have and mine work perfect. I'm going to order a chopped tour pack next because of your bike, iclick.
