Looks like I can save my money and not get the IDS that I felt no need for in the first place. By the way I have no fifth gear noise on my 07 RoadKing.

Did you put this quote on every dead 07 transmission post? I just saw this on another tranny post that had been dead for 8 months?????
This is the way I see it. Yes, Harley made a cost cutting move when they decided to manufacture the transmission shaft side plate out of plastic. Then, they changed the cut on the gears to reduce side loading on said plate while in 1st and 5th gears. I also agree that they (Harley) gambled on the public's reaction and lost.
The back lash and resulting noise isfrom the new cut. My fix for this problem...and I had lots of noise in my 07 road king.... was to run Redline Heavyshock in the transmission. It has taken out almost allof the noise. Once in a while, on a warm afternoon, while off the throttle, I can still hear just a faint little rattle. Nothing like the deafing racket that used to be my six speed. It was cheaper to put in the Redline than to by another cover up called IDS. Besides, the Redline is better for my tranny anyway. I will either run this bike until the tranny falls apart, at which time the extended warranty, if still in effect, will pay for a new one, or, I will buy an upgraded tranny with stronger gears, plate, shaft etc.
With all this talk about the Trannys....I thought I'd chime in with MY issue. I don't have a clatter or rattle......what I have is a VERY LOUD WHINE. When I'm coming down through the gears, like slowing down in town or coming to a stop....it whines like a SIREN. In fact...several times, I've caught myself looking for fire/police vehicles it is so loud....even over the pipes and radio! My brother riding his EGS with V&H Slipons in FRONT OF ME can hear it whining. Is LOUD....REAL LOUD....just like a siren. Even my wife said, "Is there a police car coming?"
Now I'm wondering about trying some of this REDLINE HEAVYSHOCK to see if that stops it rather than possibly persuing the IDS. Maybe I'll take to the dealer and let em ride it to hear it for themselves. OR...maybe I'll risk lookin like a queer and make one of the svc writers ride WITH ME!! HE HE HE...
Well I have the noise on my '07, can hear it very palinly without a helmet, with the ff on I don't hear it so much. Ballpark figures what are dealers getting for these IDS's?
