Son going into Army..
I tried to talk him into librarian,or parking attendant..
I'm proud of my son.
worried... but proud..
...Today's Army is quite different from the one I was in in the 70's. Today's Army is the best trained, best equipped and best led in this nation's history. I spent 18 mos. in Iraq 05-07. The thing that most impressed me there was the character, integrity, guts and courage of our young soldiers and Marines. I know we all think this latest generation is a lost cause, but not the men and women of our armed forces. They are smart, tough and deeply patriotic. They are winners. I am proud of your son. Tell him that for me.
Much more professional than in previous years.
When I first went in early 70's I kept wondering, "whereâs the Navy I joined?"
By the time I was finished (late90's) the world of the military had changed dramatically.
The old horror stories I heard from "old timers" was a thing of the past.
These guys are intelligent, professional and motivated. Today your son is going to have to work for it to keep up.
And he will be a better man for it.
Heck by now - and I havnt been out that long. I'd have trouble keeping up.
I may not have done enough, but I thank God for the privilege to have served.
My parents and friends say when I came out they could barely stand me because I had so much confidence (arrogance).
Oh ya, I got out to work as a civilian for the Dept of Defense. I now pay cash for every toy I own.

Thank you military!!!
