Question about Kendon trailers
Does anybody know what the tonge weight would be on a Kendon single trailer towing a 05 EG. And also looking for imput about this trailer. All imput grately appericiated. Thanks. Bob.
Don't know tongue weight but have had a Kendon single and then upgraded to a dual stand up trailer. I have had my Street Glide by itself on the dual and it rides great. Fat Boy went number of times on the single and that was great too. Excellent trailer IMHO. Picked both of mine up mine up used ( $950 for single and then $1250 for the dual) and if you don't already have one keep your eyes open in Cycletrader.com under Kendon. Good luck.
I have had my Kendon single now for almost 8 years and I love it. My wife and I Love to Tour - I have trailered to Vegas and WA three times (Ya I trailered - but going 900 miles straight up I-5 in summer heat is Not my wifes idea of fun) so don't flame me here.
I pull the single with a Toyota and I have had a Fatboy, Wide Glide and now a FLHTCI on it and it handles great. I will tell you my Most embarrising story here - some of you may think it is BS ( I only wish it was )
Decided to take the Wide Glide to the HD for consignment. running late and got in a hurry (First BIG mistake) to make a long story shorter here and leaving out some interesting details...
Moving down 99 in Northern Ca #1 lane doing about 75 pulling the Kendon with the WG on it... realized I was driving too fast - check the lane to my right, pushed the turn signal and started to move to the right - Wife yells ( *!%#& Motorcycle) I thought I was cutting someone off and yelled back "What M/C" which she replied "YOUR M/C" I looked back and saw my kendon about 20 feet behind me and coming straight at me "Now for a slit second I was thinking "what the hell" Yes, my kendon had come OFF the car Completly {No safty chain - nothing} For once on 99 everyone was paying attetion and backed off. I pulled ahead and just watched - believe it or not, that kendon was so well balanced and the bike so well secured - it just skidded straight down the freeway at 70+ = it started to slow and moved to the middle land - keep slowing and moved to the slow lane - keep slowing and moved to the shoulder and came to a stop - the only damage was the skid plate and my ego --- This is a true story and I even called Kendon to thank them for building such a well balanced trailer - this happed 3 years ago... In my 10 years of riding and or trailering - this has been our only problem... I am not some idiot - just got in a hurry -
So, if you need a trailer - I praise the Kendon... and the stand up ability is great... it actually takes up less space in my garage than my bike does... It get used only on rare occasions but when needed - I love it....

I have a Kendon single and have hauled it cross country 3 times (2600 miles each trip). Haul with a Buick LeSabre and just forget it's there until I look in the mirror. Only problem was on 2 of the trips the license plate blew off. Once both nylon bolts broke, the next time with stainless bolts, the plate tore off at the bolt holes and left pieces of the plate attached at the bolts. Only thing I can assume is there is too much plate surface exposed to wind at ends of mounting plate. Also having a problem with bearing seals leaking..unless I'm overfilling. Haven't decided if inner seal should be replaced.

Easy enough to figure out the tongue weight. Load the bike on the trailer, get yourself a bathroom scale and weigh the tongue. It's not perfect, but you will be in the ballpark...
I have a Classic enclosed trailer and the specs say it weighs approximately 1k#. Loaded my EG Classic (800#) and took it to the local transfer station (dump) and had the unit weighed on their scales. Weighed in at 1540# loaded. Think the trailer specs were a bit off? Went home and parked on level grade, measured the distance from the ground to the trailer coupler while it was hitched to my PU. I unhitched the trailer, set it on a portable scale setting the coupler height at the height when it was hooked up to my truck and read the tongue weight. I have the luxury of repositioning my EG in the trailer to adjust the tongue weight and when I had it between 10 & 15 % of the total loaded trailer weight, I secured my bike mounting chock inside the trailer. I strongly suggest that you weigh the tongue at the height it will be when it is hooked up to your vehicle. Believe it or not, you will get different tongue weight readings if it is above or below the actual trailering height.
