I have a question. I had 103 jugs put on my bike. The store told me they were off and said they exchanged them. But later I found out they bored a set of 96' jugs rather than exchanging the 103's. What does this mean in the way of quality and the difference in jugs ? I was thinking the bored out set would be thinner and have more of a heat problem ???? I don't know why they wouldn't just give me another set of 103's .
The 96" and 103" cylinders start out from the same set of castings, they are just bored to a different size. most 103 builds are just as yours, a set of 96" cyls bored out.
You paid for a 103" conversion! They bored your jugs and installed pistons? OK...matching piston to cylinder is not a bad thing, but...you paid for a new set of jugs (we assume)...demand new ones! Hell, maybe they used old pistons as well? This ain't kosher, Bro!
96's and 88's are the same bore......3.750"
95's and 103's are the same bore.....3.875"
If they sold you an H-Dbig bore kit....then there is no exchange and I would ask for my old parts..which would be pistons and cylinders....
Boring the cylinders is OK as long as the machine shop knows what they are doing..
Two of us ordered new 2008s and the Big Bore kits (cylinders, pistons, cams, exhaust and breather)....you can bet your butt I want thosew take offs! Yeah...may never use 'em, but we are paying MSRP and full labor for new cylinders...and we want the stockers...Ebay maybe...ya know damned well the stealer or wrenches will use 'em if you leave 'em and there ain't no discounts for leaving brand new parts in their hands!
They are the same cylinders.
But tell us, how did you find that out?
I talked to the mechanic. I had a set of 103 jugs, or I was charged for them. I was told the jugs were off and causing a knocking in my engine so they pulled the old jugs and had a set of bored jugs installed. This all happen when I had the cam put in. the mechanic said there was a knocking. But there wasnt no knocking before the new cam, so im like WTF ? I still don't know why they changed the jugs.

I'm going to assume that this is part of your ongoing problems with Pensacola Harley. If so, it looks to me like you have a couple of choices: 1. Document as much as you can & go after them through Harley customer service &/or the court system. Or, 2. If your bike is running well now chalk it off to experience.
Either way, from the things you've posted here, if I were you I would ride out of the way to stay off the street they're on & I'd go as far as it took to find a mechanic I trusted for the things I couldn't do myself.
As for fresh barells or bored, it makes no difference as long as the bore job was done correctly. My issue with what you've reported is that it sounds like they took it on themselves to make some change to your bike without your knowledge or consent. Bad enough on it's own, but if they charged you for it it amounts to theft. Your posts have me thinkin' they look at you as a cash cow. Time for you to get away from 'em.
