You remove the headlights when the fairing is off. Nobody has trouble getting the fairing off it's lining it back up on the hooks thats a PITA.

Just squeeze the green tabs and the lights come out. You can see what you're doin then.

I have taken it off and put it back on so many times no, I am afraid I will start to strip out the plastic part that the screws are going into. If this happens, what is the solution? Is there some sort of repair kit or do I just go to a larger screw at that point? Just checking in case this happens. One of them felt like it may be getting there now.

At first it is the biggest PITA, but what I have found that makes sure the fairing is on the tabs is take off the windsheild, at least for me it gives me a little more leverage to lift and push.

@ vtwinjax: A bigger screw, although good for the moment, is bad long term. It is HD poor design, a cross we must bear with the RG. As a repair kit, have not seen one. Best to check with a body shop, maybe something more study can be fabercated.

I agree with most everyone else about this. Take the head lights out and you should have no problems....don't ask how I know

Taking the headlight out does make it easier, I just did it and it lined up pretty good. But I forgot to plug in the light, now I get to do it all over again. Arrrggghhhh.

He's right about the pissed and beer thing. Felt like it took me forever to get it on by lining up the hooks
+1

I futzed with mine for a good 30 minutes the first time. Walked away for an hour then tried it again and it went right on.

I have the best luck by cradleing it with my arms under it and feeling for the bottom of the inner fairing. Once I get the bottom lined up I lean forward, then down. That seems to work. I haven't tried taking out the headlight.

How would you like the be the poor slob at the factory who does that 40 hours every week?

That is funny you ask that, I was thinking the same thing last night when I was trying to put the darn thing back on. I was thinking, I sure wish I had him here at my house to put it back on for me. Probably could do it in 15 seconds flat, and that includes the screws.

So easy taking the headlight out, I don't think anything about pulling mine off. I used to hate it before I discovered the headlight trick. Now, it's2 minutes off and2 minutes back on....

I got it back on, thanks for all your help. I got the tabs lined up right, but it looks like they new speakers are keeping the fairing from mounting flush now. The speakers seem to be keeping the inner fairing from matching up perfect with the outer fairing right by the speaker area. Anyone else seen this? Maybe it will settle in after it has been ridden and sat in the sun for a little while. Any suggestions on that? The gap is about an 1/16 of an inch on one side, the other side is more like a 1/32 of an inch.
