I am running a 4 1/4 rim not rubbing on belt guard or any thing else only had one ride on it since going to the 18"&21" rims but it felt great so far thought it handeled a little better will be lowering front as soon as parts get in it has for sure raised the bike up a bit not sure if I want to go just 1" or maybe more any help on that ?
Thanks for the response Bobzilla!!! I took a bit of a gamble from reading some responses here and ordered a 21x3.25 front and 18x4.25 rear with a 160mm. I wanted the 160 for the higher load capacity and smoother ride inherent with a radial to counter a bit of a harsher ride associated with a lower profile tire. I didn't see the possible contact areas as a big concern, the belt guard can be trimmed, the inner fender lips can be pinched in, and worst case, I can shim the final drive pulley out an 8th or so with shims available all over the net if the tire may happen to be too close for comfort to the belt.
As far as lowering goes, you would have to lower it 1" to counter the increase in dia of the 21", but more is up to you. I"m lowering the rear an inch, so I'll be lowering the front 2" overall...
