I have been using HDSE Syn3 in my '07 FLHRS since my first Service. I am considering using Amsoil in its place. Does anyone have any insight to share with me? I am considering AMSOIL Synthetic20W-50 -what should I put in my Transmission and my Primary? Can anyone suggest a non-HD oil filter?
I run AMSOIL 20W-50 in my motor, primary, and transmission.
My bike made a lot of valvetrain noise from the factory, and the transmission would "clunk" into first gear. It's unbelievable how much more quiet it is with this oil.
Amsoil makes a filter for it as well.
Amsoil 20-50 in all three holes. 20-50 engine oil is equal to a 70-90 gear oil, just a different number system. Go to the amsoil site, got some good info there.
I use Mobil 1 Vtwin in the Engine and Primary, Mobil 1 75/90 gear in the tranny but I'd glady replace all 3 with Amsoil (probably still stick to 75/90 gear in tranny) and Redline as well.
You can get Mobil 1 VTwin 20-50 for $8 a quart at Wal-Mart. While it's a few bucks more than standard Mobil1 Syn, it's only 3 quarts in the motor.
I am a new Harley owner. Bought a 03 RK classic in December and have not ridden it yet. I have asked 3 different Harley dealers about oil. They all recommended regular vs synthetic. They all said synthetic thins out and results in a noisy engine. I know they are referring to Syn3. Any advise is appreciated.
