Default New bagger

Advice? A friend of mines' mother passed away and left him a little money to finally buy a Harley (she must have been rich, God rest her soul). He bought a new bagger (FLHTC I think, too damn many letters anymore I'm still an FL or FH kinda guy). He asked ME what he should do to wake it up. I suggested the usual: pipes, map injection, cam, maybe some headwork. He hasn't a clue of what the hell I'm talking about but he says he wants MORE! I'm not sure what his budget is but he's talking blower or turbo. I said he's going to be in the least $5k range easliy. I told him I'd throw it out here, asmy idea (and budget) is an Andrews "A", cam, S&S carb, auto advance igntion and straight pipes (useless but sound good)for my pan. Throw me some bang for buck HP ideas and I'll pass them along. He's talking Trask tubo. I haven't a clue on anything past Shovel's (Harley died in '65). I know I'm in for some **** here now (LOL). Slapz

Based on everything I've been reading about 96" cranks, I'd be reluctant to do much that takes it past 100/100. But that's just me. I'd tell him to cam it, maybe a 103 kit, pipes, breather and re-map. If he wanted a rocket he might have bought the wrong bike.

You CAN do a blower on 'em - there's several on the market - but remember that everything has a price. Hotrodding ANY engine WILL shorten the lifespan - HD knows what can be done within the limits of the engine. There's cheaper ways to do it, but if this is a new bike, doing HD mods within the dealer network will maintain his warranty...

I agree, if you want fast cheap, buy a Hiawatha or a Fitzubushi or whatever. But there's the "cool" factor......And you have to be ready for "really fast". There's Harley fast and then there's jap fast, two different ball games.... my idea of fast is these new modern Shovels that replaced my pan............
