Just putting another question out about all these broken brackets, but what exaust and engine mods have been done to your ride if you are having the brackets break? Maybe if we can come up with a common thread for the failure we can find a "cure." My 06 Eglide standard broke the left bracket and had the mufflers punched out when I bought it. I changed to 07 stock mufflers, mainly because i like quiet, welded a 1/4 inch reinforcement rod in the bracket, doubled the mounting point thickness by welding washers to them, and have had no problems since. My right bracket is stock and unaltered with no problems. 16K miles since the mods.
Streetrunner , maybe I'm just weird this way by noticing , but you have had many posts about vibration oriented problems.
The reason I mention this is a buddy of mine and I swapped bikes last year for about the last 15 miles of a 50 mile trip and when we got to our
destination he was shaking his head and so was I.
He was wondering what I changed to make my bike so smooth , because his bike vibrates so badly.
I was wondering what was wrong with his bike because my feet had actually gone to sleep riding his.
His bike was a 2006 Street Glide also.
He had it to two different dealers and 3 different front engine mounts , and nobody really fixed it.
I see this over and over on the forum and wonder how widespread the problem really is.
He had a couple sets of fairing brackets go bad , and after 7500 miles I haven't seen a crack or anything yet in mine.
The only real difference between our bikes is injection vs carb and low rear shocks vs 13" standard shocks.
I did have a few parts "fall off" my bike in the first 1000 miles (nice dealer prep), but nothing like the vibration he had.
I wonder if some of the bikes roll off the assembly line with misaligned links/mounts or just sloppy assembly.
This year I was going to go over every last bolt on his bike just to satisfy my curiosity but he sold it and bought a boat.
Just an observation.

The vertical brackets are broken on mine, I wish it was just the side ones. Only a stage 2 kit and slip on's for mods, I run a HD shorter windshield, not sure of the height. I think I'm just gonna beef mine up like you other guys did, thanks for the pics for ideas. What's the use in replacing it with the same part if it's just gonna brake again.....
I wonder if the 07-08 bikes have new brackets or is HD putting the same bracket in?
My guess is they're using the same crappy brackets. I had this same problem with my 00 Classic. There is someone who's making stronger brackets but I figure if I can't see them I don't care what they look like as long as they work, and they have so far.
I took my fairing off tonight and the right side bracket was broken, the left one was not. So, I took my angle iron and started to cut, bend, shape, and grind.........and I know have a pretty new bracket. I'm sure this homemade beauty won't break as easy as the crappy stock one. I'm going to keep an eye out for the left one to break, and when it does I'll be ready to make another one to replace it.
$6.50 for the 4' peice of angle iron, and it's enough to make 4 new brackets as needed.
Yeah, I joined the club this past weekend with just about 8000 miles on the bike. Larger, vertical, black bracket on the right side (standing in front of the bike) cracked right at the 90 bend connection to the fairing.
I opted not to be inconvenienced by bringing it in to service under warranty, especially since they will simply replace with the same thin-gauge part.
5 bucks for 4 feet of 1.5" angle steel and some hacksaw/grinder/drill press time (about 15 minutes) was all it took and that particular joint will last the life of the bike.
I will be keeping an eye out for the other areas of these brackets that fail......disappointing knowing this has been an issue for so long with no design update.
This is getting old, fast! Had a vibration in the fairing today, took the front off to inspect and there it was, another left fairing bracket broken. (the long black one)
This is the third one on the left side. This one only lasted 1,000 mile!
Could it be that something is not right within the fairing and is putting stree on that one side?
These brackets are $46 a pop.
Stop replacing them with the same weak stock brackets. I had several break until I got fed up and beefed them up. No problems since.
