Same with me and a couple friends, we buy in bulk as one of us became a dealer. We do not advertise we can buy AMSOIL, mainly we just use it. I am not going to tell you it is better than anyother oil as I am not a chemist or an engine guy, but it seems to work well for me (20,000+ miles)

My grandpaw use to say the same thing as pop1. Erl is Erl boy just use whatcha got. I found a big difference using synthetic oil. Running cooler was the first difference i noticed on my bike. That was enough to sell me. In my truck the engine is quieter and runs smoother and the same for my car and boat. Give it a try and if you don't like it switch back and rock on. Not everyone is sold on it. I am sold on amsoil for those reasons and the fact that it's at my door after a few key strokes. I am going to see if their claim of 35k or 1yr on the oil in my truck holds true and if it does than that will make it cheaper for me than conventional oil.

HA if their wrong you will be looking for a new truck. I think your grandpa was smarter. 35K seems much much to long before an oil change I don't care who makes it.

i sure hope you are going to follow that up with oil sampling instead of just going for it!

The difference is the oil change intervals can be extended over natural oils. Even natural oils can go longer than the old "3,000/3month" ad campaign. That was a great ad campaign, and it had it's day when it was true and oils were of a straight weight and had no aditives for detergents or friction. But these days of multi-weight, detergent laced, friction-reducing, shear-stability oil, you can easily extend your change interval. Even in air/oil-cooled engines. Now, I do send an oil sample once a year to www.blackstone-labs.com and they test the oil that comes out of your engine and breaks it down to see what is going on and if it is still within protection limits. Vehicle manufacturers have slowly been upping the change intervals over the last few years. My recent Honda was 8,000 miles on natural oil. Wife's BMW was 15,000 on full synthetics. It is up to the owner's of course, but you can go beyond what most MoCo's say safely

In my opinion synthetic is a waste of money. For every bike that goes 100k miles using synthetic there is another one that ran 100k without it. If it was necessary HD would use it from the factory and advise its usage in the owners manual. It's just another gimmick in my opinion. I have never used it and have put many trouble free miles on my car engines and motorcycle engines. Any oil will do for me and the cheaper the better.
I agree 100%.

To be fair to the Amsoil users, though, Posserider uses it and changes it every 10k miles in his 2003 Ultra. He has 60k trouble free miles on it so far.

I live up in northcentral Wisconsin. The local Fleet-farm carries AMSOIL motorcycle oil on it's shelves. I use it in my '98 dresser.

I apologize for beating a dead horse. I am a new Harley owner and have one question. I have read hundreds of threads regarding how great Amsoil is. My question is if it is so so great, why is it so difficult to buy. Why is it not sold everywhere like other great oils. I have been a Corvette owner for ten years and using Mobile1 and never heard of Amsoil. Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree. I just findit odd.
HD sells oil right? Thats why a lot of dealers dont stock it. I use Amsoil and will not stop. My dealer gets the Amsoil users since they stock it. The ones that dont have Amsoil or redline or mobil1 or what ever bring theirs to their crappy dealer to put it in.

I will not disagree with you but I will say this. Syn3 that was in my bike during a hot summer only had 2500 miles on it. It had broken down to the point it was black and watery. The way it ran off the dip stick didnt even remind me of oil. For me if the oil brakes down that bad I will not use it. Syn3 will not go in my engine ever again. Total synthetic oil can pull its self back together and give better protection from what I experienced. Syn3 I dont trust any longer.

I too buy Amsoil on line, run it on all my cars and my diesel truck, I will switch over on my 08EGC as well. Well worth the money, I buy a few case at a time to get better deal. I am thinking of becoming a dealer to get a bettwr discount and sell it part time.
