I have a 06 r/k and want to put a set of S/ eagle pipes on. I wanted to know if I need to put a power commander on or can I just slip them on with no problems.
You'll need the power commander and you'll want to put on a high performance air filter. That's what's called stage 1 with the pipes. I have an '06 RK with stage 1. You will notice a big difference in performance especially over 3000 rpms. The stock RK feels likes it just runs out of power, which it is basically, but with the stage one the engine revs free getting all the air and fuel it needs.
I think Barjbar and Gutman are both right. You can install just the pipes, but don't expect performance to improve. Add an AC and you'll need to either do a Stage 1 download or install a PCIII or other EFI controller, which will will achieve marginally better performance with the Stage 1 and much better with a properly tuned controller.
Frankly, I wouldn't waste my money with the Stage 1 download, which will cost over half as much as a PCIII with less than half the results. Call the number at http://fuelmotousa.com and ask for Jamie. Before investing in mufflers, consider this:
I put on SE exhaust, after speakingwith Jamie at Fuel Moto, he said I wouldn't especially need a
PC but it would help with the heat issues, since I plan on installing a different AC I went with a PCIII with a basic map which I can change to another map if necessary.Due to weatherrrrrrr, I can't tell you the results, here's hoping
