Calling all performance gurus, Hp nuts and aggresive riders. I am finding myself needing a sticker tire for my bike. Since the build the dunlop just wont stay on the road. So I think it is time for a upgrade, looking to do a 18"/18" set up probably 150/70-18 rear and 140/70-18 front. Looking hard at the hog pro sets. The question is realy this, What would be a better tire for my bike? I have never run either of these but I ride fairly aggresive and with the power im now making it gets fairly squirly. Taking all opinins. Thanks.
I have never had them on a Harley but I Had a 1800cc Vtx That turned 110 rwhp and 112 rwtq. It is a 800 lb v-twin cruiser. I ran ME 880's (metzler) and rode it like a sport bike. I never had an issue with sidewall or straight on traction. With metzler you have to run correct pressure or they will cup though.
I pulled the OEM tires off this bike 2 months after I bought it.... don't get me wrong... i rolled from sidewall to sidewall on the Dunlops... BUT..... I never felt like they stuck.... I could see that I was leaning her... but never felt that good sticking...... put Metzlers on... took an easy 50 mile run (knocking the shiny off) then hit some curvey roads..... the bike felt planted..... just tthe way I wanted it... Avon Venoms are another excellent choice. and to the naysayers who point out that ANY new tire sticks better than an old one... and they're right...... the tires I pulled off had around 2,000 miles.... someone probably has them on his bike right now, and I'm fine with that... because i have better tires, and spring is here in NC
I used to live in Texas Rode from Killeen Texas to Daytona in 03 in the rain the whole way on ME 880's. No problems. My brother rides on them as well he lives in East tn. In the mountains. Good tire I usually got 9 or 10 thousand before replacing them on the vtx. It is the tire that will go on my SG when they are ready to go.
I just got the Metzelers 880's on my Streetglide after 10K on the stock dunlops. After about 200 miles I can say there is a difference. I feel more comfortablewith the Metzelers, they feel more nimble.
The metzler has more radius to them they are a faster turning tire. If you look at them beside a sport touring tire they are the same radius. U in other words they form more of a V than a U hope this helps. I have never rode the Venoms but a freind of mine does and likes them on a Road Star. Low Hp high TQ bike.
I used to be a metz freak until they switched production to brazil. Have noticed more wear and very inconsitent tire sizes. I now use Avon. Performance is just as good if not better and they wear a bit better. Cant judge mileage by me though, been through half a dozen tires in 15000 miles...lol
