Quick question. I really like the look of the stock Street Glide rims in chrome. So with that being said, would it be more expensive to chrome my rims or would it be more cost effective to purchase already chromed stock Street Glide rims? I see them all the time on eBay.
That's a toughy. Depends on your local chrome shop I guess. I can get a set chromed for 900.00
I have to take them in to get dis-mounted and re-mounted at a Indy shop. I can take em off and put them on the bike at home.
Most places on e-bay want you to pay $300.00 untill you send them yours. Thats over and above the cost of their wheels.
Which run anywhere from 800 to 900.00.
So I may just do my own in the DFW area. http://www.advancechromeplating.com/content/view/16/28/
But again I'd have to remove the bearings and re-istall them.
Anyone have the place to get the special tool for that?
I have a RKC and am not in love with the spokes so I bought a set of 9 spoke wheels off ebay for $150.Bought some off ebay ona chrome exchange for $550. Sent my wheels first so I didn't have to deal with the core charge. I put new bearings and sleeve in, which was about $140 or so plus an hour labor at $84 to install the bearings. I was quoted $600 and a 4 week wait to get the wheels I bought chromed. Also have a 2 year warranty on the chrome. If you don't send your wheels first I would find out how fast you get your deposit on the wheels back.
Look on e-bay there are several places offering chrome exchange for a pretty good price. Pay the core charge have them ship their wheels to you first, have your dealer remove and install the new bearings, send them your wheels back and they credit your card for the core charge. This way your aren't down waiting 2-3 weeks for chroming.
I have RK custom wheels on my '06 road glide that was purchased late in the summer of '06, making them 1.5 years old. I have a set of aftermarket wheels on order. I will be selling the wheels with tires and the front rotors. They have 5K on them and are in excellent shape! I will be asking $600 obo for them. You could sell your current wheels for $300 on ebay, so the new chrome ones would cost ya $300.
