Default Road Glide Gauges Fog Up

I recently bought an '02 FLTR Road Glide (8900 miles). I notice that the 4 gauges in the fairing tend to fog up inside the glass when starting out on a ride. They usually clear up after a few miles. I have a warranty in effect for a few more months, transferred from the previous owner. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with touring models, or is there a seal that should keep out the moisture? I wouldn't think the moisture would be a good thing for sensitive gauges. The previous owner had already replaced the fuel gauge once after malfunction. Am I just outta luck, or should I complain to HD?

I have an 01 FLHTCUI and have the same problem with my small gauges after washing the bike, but since it always seems to clear up I have not worried about it. I have over 41,000 on the bike now< and it hasn't affected the guage operation, just initial appearance.

Thanks for the quick reply, Scout. We are in a high humidity area here near the Gulf coast of Texas, so that's probably why moisture shows up on every ride at startup. Guess there is no way to prevent it. If yours has caused no problems with that many miles, I won't worry about mine. Gracias, amigo!

I have an '05 road(geezer) glide. My guages do the same. Inherent with lots of HD gauges. My '01 heritage gas gauge does it as well.

For some reason the gauge housings that HD uses are not hermetically sealed. They have openings in the housings that will allow atmospheric moisture to condense on the underside of the glass. They are actually clouding up and raining inside the instrument...on a micro scale of course. No harm seems to have come from the clouds as yet, they just dry up. Looks to me like if moisture can get in, so could dusty dirt.

Two weekends ago the fuel gauge began malfunctioning. As I mentioned before, the previous owner had replaced it once before. I took it to the shop and they found that it was only a float problem, and only needed adjusting. It's working fine again, so the gauge was not the problem. I'm curious to see whether cooler weather will make a difference in the fogging. It's been mid-90's here in south Texas this week, so it may be January before I get to find out!!

Thanks,
Tom

Mid 90's huh? I've dug out a heavy leather jacket to ride with in eastern VA. (at least it isn't raining today), it'll probably go right to snow this year too, ******* deep!

2 things about the fuel guage. 1 it is not accurate. 2 it fogs up. You cannot change this. Use the guage as a guide. When you have traveled 150 miles look for fuel or a sale on a piece of garden hose.

The tach on our Deuce fogs up also. Took it to the dealer for a warranty claim. They said that HD warranty does not cover any type of fogging in the instruments, only malfunction of the instrument..................

It nevr fails,

All the H-D touring models seem to be plagued with gauge fogging.
Bruce is correct....H-D will not warranty foggy gauges.
