My new 08 Vivid Black Ultra is in. Had my 04 Ultra sold for $15,000 and the guy called me up the day he got the check and told me he got a call yesterdaythat he might be laid off. So no deal. Guess I'll have to trade it in, and take my beating.
Here in WA state we have a sales tax - and if you trade a bike in, then you only pay tax on the difference ... which makes the net difference much more appealing since you aren't paying 7.75% sales tax on the entire amount.
$20,000 - trade $13,500 = $6,500 taxable ... or $503.75 in tax OR
$20,000 without trade = $20,000 taxable ... or $1,550.00 in tax!
So, here in WA you would have to sell your '04 to an individual for $14,600 or more to beat the trade in offered ....
Maybe your state operates the same, and you're closer to the 15K than you think?
Works the same way here in In. The dealer is nice enough that in a private sale they will do the paperwork like the person is buying it direct from the dealer and giving me credit, so no sales tax on the total, just the diff. Good dealer. I did advertise in a local Autorv.com, so I may be getting some calls.
