Well, how bad do you figure it's going to hurt every time you go for a ride and wish you had the EGC? If you do a lot of riding you might end up feeling bad a lot before you finally give up and get what you wanted in the first place. You think you have to take a loss? Look at it as tuition instead.
Had been riding Sportsters, Softail Heritage and Road kings... Went bikelss for about 2 years after I sold the 03 RK.... Got back into wanting to ride again and just had to have an Ultra.... Rode the Ultra and was happy with it..... for awhile... Now wish that I had purchased a new Road King..
In my opnion... Harley Has only one true .... good ride... The Road King... The EG's and Ultras are nearly the same with bags etc.. If it were me, I would just stick with the Road King.
Sounds to me like Waldog (Has a Road King and wants an ElectraGlide) and Doug (Has an ElectraGlide and wants a Road King) could work something out here.
I wouldn't trade my road king for any thing. Detachable wind shield and tour pack is the way I went. About $1500.00 new or a grand or less used on ebay (spend the time to shop). In the end you are the only one that has to live with this choice. So figure out what ya want ie radio, looks, the money ya don't spend, some other mod, weigh all your cost and options first and then proceed. This may be one of those times that money can buy happiness.
indaupeh
RK with those options gives the best of both worlds, imho.
For me, I decided I wanted the permanent mount batwing, so I went SG this time around. For you...seriously, those 2 quick detach options would give you what you're wanting (minus some of the electronics found on eGlides).
I had an '06 RK......God, i loved that bike. My wife quit ridding alone and became a fixture on the back, i traded for an 07 Ultra,
not sorry i did, i love it. but i do miss my RK, it just seemed like it had attitude. I will say i went back to my dealer and they were dealing on the
07's and gave me what i thought was a good deal, they gave me all but 1000.00 back for the RK. this was 9 months later. I went through the same thing,
Fairing, tourpack all that stuff, figured if i was going to make it an ultra, might as well get one. with the RK, at least you can take it all off, if you want the attitude back. Ha!
