i fvcking hate thieves!!!!

having said that, i bought my wife a Garmin street pilot for her suv. with the recent rash of GPS thefts, i told her not to leave it stuck to the windshield, which shes been good with. however, the thieves now look for the suction cup MARK on the windshield- which is a dead give away for a GPS being stashed in the car.

so- i bought her this 'bean bag' (well, ive been giving her MY bean bag for a long time )kinda thing. its pretty neat. the GPS mount suctions to the center is this bag and it simply rests on the dashboard.... its kinda weighted, so it doesnt slide around at all. when she parks, she simply slides the bag/GPS under the seat. no visual evidence of a GPS being in the car.

That sucks! I had a Magellan a couple years ago and had it stolen in Atlanta at the hotel I was staying at that had valet parking. I took it off the mount, put it in my console, but left the mount and plug on the windshield. No one broke in, my doors were locked when I wen out to leave, but it was gone. The only good thing was the fact the genius that took it didn't take the power cradle (only ran with power no batteries).

I know this no help for you now but i use pelican boxes for almost everything. I have a few of them and i like the fact that they have a lifetime warranty and they are waterproof and float. These are some of them.

Pelican 1650 for 3k in diving equipment. It gets tested for durability 2 times a year for the last 5 years by the airline every time i fly and still passes.
Pelican 1490 for my briefcase and it was tested by accident and they do float and are waterproof.
Pelican 1150 for my GPS and all the crap that goes with it. It also has enough room for the radar detector for when i get out of my truck and only want to carry i small box.
Pelican 1120 for my Valentine 1 radar detector. I have dropped this box a few times but with the pick and pluck foam inside i think i could throw it down and it would still be OK.

I also have a few others that i use for Cameras, Cell phones, VHF radio, Depth finder (they call them fish finders now and it works for finding them but no help catching them) Truck keys and boat papers and they keep everything dry and safe when i am on my boat. I always take my electronics with me for fear of them getting stolen. I got use to packing them up at every stop. This might be worth a look see.

Hard lesson to learn at such a cost, I feel for ya! make sure the new one gets the locking code all the time to turn it on,might not be a bad idea to contact garmin with the serial numbers and let them know it was stolen in case your thief returns it to get it unlocked(which is a slim chance,Garmin require a copy of the original sales slip with your name and address on it,to prove it was sold to you, before unlocking it)

Hey man there are azzholes abound.

I feel for you. Your perspective is the right one, a lesson learned.

Remember, you can trust no one, and chances are the idiot who got it won't know what to do with it.

Also, if you have the serial number call Garmin in case the idiot tries to get service.

Again, sorry for your troubles.
