I have read a number of posts about Harleys "Switchback" Jackets. I,m in the market for a new jacket and really am looking for somthing more "functional". How good are the switchback jackets in the cooler/colder weather? I,m talking lows 40s or so? I do alot of longer distance riding and would really like to consolidate where I can, I really hate needing a heavier leather in the AM to turn around and feel naked (so to speak) come afternoon when its quite warm for it. Not to mention I really like my skin, but sweating in a heavy leather is really no fun.
All those zippers let the cold and wet right in. I still need the liner and a good sweatshirt with mine. Great idea for mostly warm weather but not so great in the cold IMO.
I just bought the Tourmaster Flex Jacket. It will be dropped off by UPS tomorrow and will try it out right away. I bought one for my ex girlfriend (I kept it, but way too small) last year and she liked it a lot. The Jacket has a lot of options and is very versatile. This is Tourmaster's website. www.tourmaster.com
These are great jackets and work as intended! You can unzip a section to allow air in and it really cools you off. There is a rain liner that you can zip in that keeps you dry if needed. The liner also makes it very warm in winter. I've ridden in 20* weather and didn't get cold. It's a great technology!
I bought mine yesterday and went on a test ride today. Here is the short analysis. 1) The jacket is very, very functional. It has more tabs, vents, and zippers than I can recall. 2)The jacket is cut for a biker, fits well, and is quality made. 3) It was about 35 degrees (F) when I went out on my ride today. No problems at all. I was actually very warm and comfortable. Overall, I consider the jacket to be very versatile and useful. I like it a lot

I bought one last year and really like it. Very versatile as Profman stated.
I have the Switchback jacket. It's great for most of the year, but sucks in cold weather (as in Montana). It fits tight and is very comfortable. Will probably go with a heavy leather like the FXRG for the colder weather, but not paying dealer price for that rig.
Switchback is perfect for the summer weather here -cold mornings/nights, hotter than hell days.
Also have a pair of Kevlar chaps that are fine for warmer weather, really feel the cold below 45*
