Fork Question
I was just reading the new American Bagger, and they were doing a fork swap........and something caught my eye.
On the bottom of the inner fork tube is a split bushing, does that come on the new inner fork tubes from the factory? Or is that something that you have to put on there?
I don't remember putting one on my inner fork tube when I did my chrome lowers and got rid of the cartridge. The old inner fork tube still has the bushing on it as it lays on my bench, and I'm thinking now that I may have to tear my front fork apart for that bushing.
How important is that bushing? I'm guessing without it, the lower part of the inner fork tube may have some slop in there and be able to move around a little bit.
Any help or info would be great, before I tear apart the front end again for nothing.

Steve, all the upper tubes I've installed from HD came with the lower bushing installed. But if you didnt notice it when you were assembling your front end and did in a magazine picture I'd be worried it wasnt there. Its only a couple hours work to check, and it will keep from tearing up the whole front end if its missing!
I'll say I didn't notice it, but I'll also say I wasn't looking for it either.
I'll have to give a shout out to Dawg and see if he can check one and see.
From thinking about how it works...........that bushing is in there to keep the inner fork tube aligned while sliding up/down in the fork. So I can see where it would be important to have it in there.
It's only a couple of hours of work, and nows a good time to do it since it's still winter for a few more weeks around here.

I just called the local HD dealer where I bought my inner fork tube, they had another one on the shelf and he opened it up for me and the bushing is installed on it from the factory.
Thank God!!!
I really didn't want to take it all apart again, but I would have if I had to.

I think you'll be alright. I just bought new inner fork tubes for my glide and bought the bushings separately . After waiting an extra week for the bushings to come I discovered they were already on the new tubes. Let me know if you need them (I doubt it) and I'll shoot them out, I have extras.

I had an "oh-****" moment............but now I'm feeling much better after your post and calling the local dealer.
