I took my saddlebags off yesterday to clean the backs of them, the spokes and the skinny whitewalls. I noticed on the part of the spoke that is curved and connects to the middle or inner part of the wheel was broke. There were two broken spokes. Is this something that is dangerous to ride on? Or can I wait until I get a new rear in a few thousand miles? I'm sure that the best thing to do is fix what's broke right away. I haven't noticed a difference in the ride at all. I guess what I am really asking is, "What are the possible consequences of riding in this condition?".
I'm sure I will have to take it into the shop to get it fixed with their spoke machines or what not. Sorry for not using any technical terms here, but if I need to I will post a couple of pics tomorrow to help show the problem.
need a good deal on a set of wheels .I just got new ones and plan to get rid of the spokes off of my 2001 Ultra.Less than it would cost to have HD fix yours
Arethe spokes broken and just dangling there? First off I would not want the broken spoke to push up and pop the tube. Second broken spokes can cause the rim to twist then your looking at at new wheel. fix it now and be safe than sorry.
Yes, it is dangerous to ride on. I'll bet you have a bunch of loose spokes as well. Been there. Done that....Twice. After the second time and a trailer ride home from 350 miles away, I wised up and put a solid wheel off a 1200C on the rear.
You have no choice as I see it, It Must be fixed... you only have 2 wheels and if that one fails (and it will) I can guarantee you won't like the results.
Why do people think they can take chances with motorcycle wheels and tires ? This is something I will never understand...........

It sounds like what you are saying is the spokes are broken at the hub. Your best bet would be to remove the wheeland take it toHD or Indy shop or someone who has a truing stand. The least expensive is they replace 2 spokes and true the wheel. If they suggest all new spokes I would go with stainless. I would not ride it the way it is.You already have 2 broken spokes and no telling if and when more might break and collapse the wheel..........BG
