throttle sticking
already checked the throttle lock screw underneath not it either. gonna stop by the shop today and see what they say. I think its with the grip just went out there again and checked it without the bike running some of the times the grip doesnt return to closed posn all the way looks like its binding up on something not sure what as I stated before have not touched these from day one.
He has an 08 THROTTLE BY WIRE.
05 was still cable actuated throttle.
No cables to lube.
Does grip assembly need lube or throttle plate assembly?
Not likely this new, but possible.
Could thottle grip assembly be sticking, Possibly.
Do you have cruise control and ABS ?
MOre likely since it is all electronic very possible the main ECM is getting a
false signal from one of them and failing to reset throttle position properly.
Being intermittent I would suspect a moving part sticking, so lube could be an issue.
TPS or the throttle grip switch (forget what HD calls it), or the stepper motor on the
throttle plate assembly. A wheel sensor giving a faulty signal to the ABS ECM and then
being passed on to the main ECM.
If a physical examination shows nothing is obviously sticking, then you need to go to
dealer and have them put the digital tech on and see if an electronic problem exists.
If problem still exists call MOCO and file official complaint and get a reference number.
Go online and file a complaint at the nhsta and ftc.
This goes for any legitimate complaint that is not properly repaired by dealer or moco.

It is nothing more than there needs to be a little play between the grip and the switch housing. Slightly loosen the brake and switch housing screws and move them both to the right about a 1/16" then tighten back down, you should be able to wiggle the grip back and forth (from end of bar towards switch housing) freely. The rib that keeps the grip from coming off the bar is binding with the switch housing.

ChooChoo, yeah look like the grip is sticking some of the times does not return all the way when i push it back to closed engine stops reving so something is binding up the grip. plan on going to the dealer today. just kind of weird starts happening now have about 3K miles on the bike. thank you all for the responses just wanted to check see if anybody else was running into this problem. will post when we find out what the actual problem was. but probably be one of those things that they cant find but just miraculously is fixed.

thanks will give this a try first. i didnt think it was anything computer wise just feels like the grip is hanging up on something after i got around to checking it out. will do as you said and loosen it up and move it. thanks!

I had this happen on my 08 SEUC, didn't want to go to dealer so I just loosened housing around throttle and where the rib on the grip sits into switch housing, I took a Q-tip and never-seize and just barely brushed the rib on the grip and tightened everything back up. 1800 miles later, not one problem.
I was at the dealer yesterday because my 08 would change idle points (speed) what they told me was that the "system" will reset the idle point when the bike is turned off, if in that process the throttle grip is moved forward beyond the normal return point there the return spring would park the grip (like if you were reaching for the brake and rolled the grip forward a bit) and shut the engine off that point now becomes the new zero reference point. That is where the problem comes in as the next time you start the bike with the grip now in its normal position (not being pushed forward) the system thinks (because of the false zero point set when shutting the bike off last) that you are rolling the throttle on slightly (in my case 2K repeatedly). The cure was to start the bike and shut it off 4 or 5 time without touching the throttle.
This was fine until this morning when the idle point changed during normal operation (not shutting off the engine).
