Need advice.
I'm going to be bringing the RG out of winter storage soon and still have 3000 miles before the 15000 mile service is due. I was thinking of changing the engine oil but leaving the filter alone until I do the entire 15000 mile service. Think it's worth it? or do I just ride it until service time, sometime in July?
IMHO, change the oil. Next winter change the oil and the filter before storage. With use, engine oilbecomes slightly acidic. Your engine does not benefit from setting all winter with that acidic oil. Probably won't hurt, but IMHO make it a future practice to winter store with fresh oil and filter no matterhow few miles are on the last oil/filter change ............. BC
When was the oil changed last? Change them both now. No more than it costs why cheat the blood of your steed? Condinsation collects in the engine over the winter months. In the spring change the oil and filter. Your going to go 3000+ miles on a filter???? I wouldn't.
You don't actually need to change either since both are still good, & any minor damage the acidity of the oil would have done has already happened. OTOH, as others here have said, "change both at the same time". You're not going to save enough time or money to matter by not changing the filter.
