Road King Classic Tachometer
Your issue is with the speedo....how's a tach gonna help? I really don't think you'll find it much easier to see than the speedo on the dash.
I thought about getting an add-on tach for mine a while back, and started paying attention to various bikes that had them installed. I didn't see a single RK that looked right with the extra device installed on the bars. Just my own taste, I guess, but the RK needs a clean and mean handlebar area. It's one of the reasons I went with that model as opposed to a bike with a fairing. After having grown up building hot-rods, the thought of not having a tach bothered me for a while, but I got over it and just trust my ears.

In response to how the tachometer will help with speed pretty easy for me if I know at 2800 RPM in fifth gear I am going 80 mph then I no longer need to look at the speedometer on the tank I just keep the bike at give an RPM and said gear and I'm pretty darn close I understand what the author was saying
I considered the handlebar mounted tach a long time ago until I read that it will not work with a windshield bag. Having a place for my sunglasses and toll tag is more important to me than the tach. If it's lugging I need to down shift. If it's hitting the rev limiter, up shift.
I understand what you are saying about looking down but I only do it once when I set the cruise control. Anything other than the highway, I just gauge the traffic and go the same speed as everyone else.
The GPS will work as you described but unless I am going on a trip, I leave it at home.
