The last week or so my bike has been running rougher and rougher when cold and at very low RPM's (even when warm). At first I thought it was a bad tank of gas. But I have been through at least 4 full tanks since I noticed it.
Today I decided to track it down. It is the rear cylinder. Plug color is lean, and that cylinder is not even firing when cold. Obvious conclusion on my part was a leak at the exhaust gasket. Too double check I sprayed some ether around the rear exhaust flange, fully expecting the rpm's to jump. NOTHING.
So I sprayed around the intake manifold, again NOTHING.
nowhere that i know of check for spark , if you have spark then check compression .
Change plugs check coils and leads
I will do that. I guess I assumed it was sucking air from somewhere since the plug is so lean. Also, once it is warmed up it is hitting on both cylinders at an idle, although it is still a bit rough. Anything much above an idle and everything smooths out fine.
Swap the plugs from front to back and see if the miss follows the plug change. If not, time for a compression check . You can also put the bike up on the lift and put it in fifth gear. Have someone turn the wheel and listen in the breather, for the intake valve and exhaust, and oil fill hole for ring conditions.. Compare it to the front cylinder to see if any different in sound between the two. This test will help find or rule out a specific problem and you can go from there if needed. Ron
Run some Chemtool B12 thrua tank of gas or two. This will help clean possible sticky floats and needle valves. Everybody in my family rides and we swear by this stuff, carbs and EFI bikes, all benefit.
Just swapped the plugs. The problem did not follow the plugs. Will check wires, if that is not it, then I guess it is into the shop to take advantage of my extended warranty.
Happy to hear your scoot is back to running good, nothing worse than haveing a problem you can't find, except maybe a blue hair in a buick with a cellphone.
