It could of been a rock.
HD manual says to inspect belt regularly for rocks.
If pierced on either edge, belt should be replaced as soon as possible.
If in center push rock out (yeah right, tried it, dang near impossible),
continue to use the belt. (personally I replaced mine as soon as I could).
But it's just as possible it was just one of those things.
I don't buy mine from HD.
I buy a genuine Gates belt. I have had better longevity from them.
Went through 2 HD belts on an 01 flhrpi in less than 20k.
Bike had close to 50k on it when I got rid of it and a little over 30k on the
gates with no sign of impending failure.
That would be the reason,todays belts are bullet proof despite what some would say.There are just too many bros. out there literally beating their machines into the ground and the belts are holding up.
