i am going to some time soon in the near future trade in my 07 road king classic. for a 2006 ultra classic.
found one localy here with only 3600 miles on it. its black but dont know the price yet.
ok you are asking WHY?
i dont like the 2007 or 2008. after spending time here on this forum i have come to that conclusion. they are hot, they clunk and it cost me too much money to unclunk it and cool it down. therefore i cant afford to refit the 2007 or 08 ultra
i was able to get my king on luck of refinancing the house. she is paid off. that was the biggest check i have ever written. i dont see that oppertunity to happen any time soon.
I'm not sure about the clunking, but I think I've got my 08 running cooler with good pipes and a good tune with the SERT. At any rate, I'm wondering what the clunking is, my 08 doesn't; and I'm curious why the Ultra would not? Bottom line, though you have to be happy with what you ride, so if the Ultra does it for you, then do it. I lost my shirt on a trade and made it back on another; but I'm thrilled with my 08 FLHRC. Ride safe, and I think your bike looks great! Best, J
So did you notice these problems with your King before you came to the forum? No offense, but I think a lot of people start imagining these problems with their bikes after reading all the pissin' and moanin' going on here.
not to sure about the ultra not clunking for 07's. dont know if it is only that model. but my 07 had a fifth gear clatter. with the ids it quieted down A LOT.
i figure. correct me if i am wrong. but the 06's dont run hot. to add a fuel mngt and pipes and high flow air cleaner is a preferance. for an 07 or an 08 its is a need. now i know the 08's have the ids already installed. so that wouldnt be needed. for me its the cost. i dont have the cost to fit another 07 or 08 with the stuff that is needed
I agree -- I just ride the hell out of mine --- not one problem in 16k miles --- I did not know it was not suppose to clunk get hot or fart until I started reading this forum

I think you should do the numbers and see what it will really cost you to go to an Ultra, the way you want it fit. If you like it better than do it. If not, you might find a way... buy the stuff used, its all over the place here and on ebay.

i found this forum before i found this bike. i learned of the problems in this forum. these problems are not an imagination. it is reality. this forum brought a lot of things to my attention. yes they do get hot. i noticed the fifth gear clatter right away. this forum has found a fix for me. this forum found solutions to the heat problem.
I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with these problems. I wouldnt want to have to put parts on my bike just to make it how it should have been in the first place either. The '06 is a solid bike. No 6th gear but no clatter or whine either. I'm glad I made the right decision the first time or I would be doing the same as you. As for being imaginary problems, get real. If we had that good of an imagination we would be in the group that bought a metric and pretended it was a Harley.
